On Californian waves - a worldwide leader in manufacturing of silicone components cooperates with MakoLab SA!

NuSil Technology is one of the worldwide leaders in production of silicone components. The company’s headquarters is located in the tiny town of Carpentiera on the Western coast of the US, 100 km to the north of Los Angeles. Its products are used both in secret military projects (effects of work of the company’s engineers are employed in panels and avionics of the B-2 Spirit strategic bomber), and in life-saving heart stimulators. Moreover, NuSil is the world’s biggest provider of silicone for manufacturing of breast implants.

NuSil is now also a client of MakoLab SA from Łódź. At the end of October 2014, the company’s new official website was unveiled – being as advanced technologically as its products. Nusil.com has been created on basis of the latest version of a web platform by Sitecore – the world leader in solutions for management of web resources, whose products have once again been acclaimed as the most innovative solutions by the renowned consulting company Gartner. MakoLab is an official provider of solutions from Sitecore.
The project has been realized within approximately 7 months. Creation and designing of the site’s structure and navigation were assigned to the New York City based creative agency Madwell. Working in three time zones (Łódź and California are 9 hours apart, New York City a bit less – 6 hours) required a certain level of elasticity of all involved parties – however, the end result rewards the numerous conference calls at sunrise or late at night.
Sitecore Experience Platform is an advanced marketing tool which allows for precise personalization of a website, tracking and scheduling consumer attitudes, thorough analytics and support of all available communication channels. For these purposes, a user-friendly and easy to use platform for management of content and marketing activities is used.
The visual design proposed by Madwell proved to be a challenge from the perspective of system architecture. The multi-step animation which provides a unique visual effect and adequately reflects the level of advancement of NuSil Technology required significant optimization. Visual accents subject to the site’s usability in all areas are to represent the philosophy of NuSil technology and the company’s main advantages – the highest quality and cleanness of the offered products – which is particularly important in the case of a manufacturer of silicone materials.
An important and advanced component of the site is the semantic search engine for the company’s products. The offer consists of several hundreds of positions of properly defined parameters (excluding products designed for individual orders). On basis of the OWL2 language, a dictionary for the innovative product database has been created, described using the RDF language. A library created by MakoLab for manipulation of RDF data called Romantic Web has been used. Deployment of such a solution and semantic tagging of products will improve accuracy of search results, better positioning of the client’s site and innovative management of searching and editing of the product database. One may state that the website nusil.com is well prepared for the era of Web 3.0 and the cutting edge, currently introduced search algorithms.
The success of the first project has resulted in plans of further cooperation, about which we shall inform on an up to date basis.
